Why did we start Chicago Music Instructors?

Well it all started when, in 1999, I started ChicagoJazz.com. The site was built to help promote the ever expanding Chicago music scene.

ChicagoJazz.com wasn't even up for a month when I started getting e-mails asking if ChicagoJazz.com could recommend a quality private music teacher for private lessons.

One parents e-mail sticks in my mind. Her son, who was 8 years old, had expressed an interest in learning percussion. The mother talked to his schools band director and her son soon began taking half hour private lessons at the elementary school.

She didn't know much about music but after 6 months even she could tell her son wasn't progressing.

After receiving her e-mail I met with her and her son to evaluate his ability. I quickly noticed that the private teacher wasn't really showing him any of the basics: " Technique " Reading music " Counting " Keeping Time

Rather the instructor simply sat a beginning student down and taught him how to play a very basic rock beat. Her son couldn't hold the sticks, read the most basic rhythms or even keep time. That's when I realized what a need there is in Chicago for a resource of quality private music teachers.

ChicagoMusicInstructors.com was born!

ChicagoInstructors.com is a site that lists some of Chicago's finest performers who also teach private lessons. I encourage you to click on the different names, read their bios, listen to the sample sound clips and maybe even go out and listen to them perform.

Whether you are just starting out or have been performing and playing for many years, there is always something you can still learn. Our musicians look forward to hearing from you and answering any of your questions.

Also feel free to contact us if you need more information on a musician or have any questions. I look forward to helping you find the teacher that can best inspire you and help you move towards achieving your musical goals.

Sincerely,

Mike Jeffers
